After another close call when my six flashing bicycle lights (two front, two rear and two on my pants legs) failed to attract a driver's attention at a crossing, I bought this vest. It is worthy every penny.
Before, I watched most drivers at cross streets coasting at a stop sign, thinking no one was coming because they did not see bright headlights from a conventional vehicle. Some cars darted right in front of me. Others hit the brakes at the last minute when they saw my relatively bright flashing bike lights. Since buying this vest, I have noticed that cars at cross streets come to a full stop because they see me coming. The combination of the reflective material on the vest, the flashing lights and the broader coverage (my upper torso) make this vest work
Normally I commute to work every day with a backpack. This vest will fit over the backpack, but the pack causes the rear part of the vest to come up at an angle that reduces its effectiveness for drivers to see from the rear. As a result, I bought a smaller backpack and carry it in a basket that I now have hooked to the rear rack. Carrying the backpack in a basket is less convenient, though a tiny price to pay for the safety improvement.
Every bicyclist who rides at night should have one of these. It might have already saved my life. |

| I've used this vest for about 4 weeks biking to and from work. It truly attracts attention--people in cars steer wide, and I surprised a string of oaths out of a kid the other night--he was probably abusing substances, but he sure did see me. My only beef with the vest is that I am a rather undersized fellow and I can't cinch it up very tight, so it flops around on me a bit. But, for the price, it is a good deal and it delivers the attention I hoped it would. |
